The Ph.D in Nursing (International Program) is designed to prepare its graduates for leadership roles and research careers in academia, the health care industry, and government and private organizations focused on health care. The program objective is to develop scholarly researchers who will advance nursing knowledge and be leaders in nursing research. To achieve the objective, students in the Ph.D in Nursing (International Program) are educated through seminars, tutorials, and independent research. The completion of a dissertation forms a major component of the program. Characteristics of the graduate are as follows. They demonstrate: 1. independent rational inquiry, self directed learning, and effective participation in collaborative learning; 2. the ability to design and conduct research studies of relevance and importance to nursing science; 3. the ability to generate and disseminate knowledge relevant to international health care policies; 4. the leadership roles in knowledge management, and nursing innovation and technology development; and 5. commitment to ethical scholarship and collaboration among international nursing research communities and interdisciplinary networks to advance nursing knowledge and health care.
