Abstract This study aimed to explore students mathematical beliefs. The target group was two hundred and sixty-five 4th grade students from 22 project schools. The project schools had applied lesson study and Open Approach in their schools based on the three phases of lesson study as followings; 1) collaboratively design a research lesson 2) collaboratively observe the research lesson 3) collaboratively discuss and reflect on the lesson and four steps of open approach as a teaching approach as followings; 1) posing open-ended problems. 2) student’ self learning 3) whole-class discussion and comparison 4) summary through connecting student’ mathematical ideas emergent in the classroom (Inprasitha, 2011). The data were collected in 2012 academic year by mathematics – related beliefs questionnaire (MRBQ) based on Mantecon, J.D. Andrews, P. & Op’t Eynde, P. (2007). The findings will be present into four categories of beliefs as the followings ; 1) students beliefs about their teacher’s role 2) students perception of his or her ability to succeed with mathematics 3) students perception of mathematical relevance and 4) students beliefs about mathematics as a rote-learnt and difficult subject.
