บทคัดย่อ The main objectives of the current study were to identify the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms, ergonomic risk level and potential risk factors related to the symptoms among garment workers. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in Kandal province, Cambodia. Multistage sampling technique was applied to select 714 garment workers from the three garment factories in Kandal province. The modified standardized Nordic questionnaire was used to obtain the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in the past twelve months. Rapid upper limb assessment (RULA) method was used to evaluate ergonomics risk in the workstation by direct observation. The response rate was 98.3%. Of 702 participants, approximately, 89% of subjects were female. Ninety two percent (95%CI: 90, 94) of subjects had musculoskeletal symptoms in at least one body region during past twelve-month. Of 702 participants, the top three were the symptoms of neck (72.1%), shoulder (63.5%) and lower back (62.3%) respectively. From RULA method, 57.7%, 23.5% of workers revealed the score of 5 and 6, respectively. The potential factors which were associated with musculoskeletal symptoms in the neck were the gender (AOR = 0.57, 95%CI:0.34, 0.96, p = 0,04) , the age of 20-29 years (AOR = 2.32, 95%CI: 1.38, 3.89, p = 0,001), the age of 30-39 years (AOR = 2.55, 95%CI: 1.42, 4.60), The age ≥ 40 years (AOR = 3.55, 95%CI: 1.57, 8.04, p = 0.002), body mass index ≥ 23 kg/m2 (AOR = 0.64, 95%CI: 0.41, 0.99, p = 0.045), and vibration (AOR = 1.79, 95%CI: 1.18, 2.71, p = 0.006). Musculoskeletal symptom in the shoulder were significantly associated with the potential risk factor such as the age of 30-39 years (AOR = 2.08, 95%CI: 1.18, 3.68, p = 0.012), the age ≥ 40 years (AOR = 2.69, 95%CI: 1.25, 5.79, p = 0.012), stressful work (AOR = 1.39, 95%CI: 1.003,1.93, p = 0.048), repetitive and monotonous movement (AOR = 1.56, 95%CI: 1.11, 2.18, p = 0.01) and vibration (AOR = 1.76, 95%CI: 1.20, 2.57, p = 0.004). The age of 30-39 year (AOR=1.84, 95%CI: 1.04, 3.24, p = 0.036), the age ≥ 40 (AOR = 3.27, 95%CI: 1.52, 7.06, p = 0.002), stressful work ( AOR = 1.85, 95%CI:1.34,2.54, p < 0.001), repetitive or monotonous movement (AOR = 1.62, 95%CI: 1.16, 2.26, p = 0.005), vibration (AOR = 1.62, 95%CI:1.13, 2.32, p = 0.009) and duration of exposure (AOR= 0.59, 95%CI: 0.39, 0.76, p = 0.009) were the potential risk factors of the upper back pain. The age ≥ 40 (AOR = 2.17, 95%CI: 1.004, 4.67, p = 0.049), stressful work (AOR = 1.46, 95%CI: 1.05, 2.03, p = 0.024) and forceful exertion (AOR = 2.49, 95%CI: 1.68, 3.70, p ≤ 0.001) were the potential risk factors of the low back pain. In conclusion, the studied Cambodian garment workers showed such a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms (92%) as well as the high score of ergonomics risk of 5 and 6.
