Abstract This research was to investigate factors affecting greenhouse gas production such as rice varieties, type of soil, type of rice cultivation, water level in the organic rice farming and to measure GHG emission in the area . The study was conducted in Organic Rice Farming of Hom Mali, Black Glutinous rice and Riceberry in Thung Kula Ronghai area. The results of the study revealed that the main factors that affecting the CH4 emission in rice cultivation are soil series, soil texture and water level used in rice cultivation. Types of rice cultivation and rice varieties showed no statistically difference in CH4 emission. The average amount of CH4 emission in Thung Kula Ronghai area is 3.84-4.13 g/m2/crop which is less than any other reports in Thailand for CH4 emission. CH4 emission in Thung Kula Ronghai is less than 3.5 times when compared with the other organic rice farming in the northeast area. And when compared with chemical rice farming, it was found that CH4 emission in the study area gave less amount than in the northeast area, central area and north area rice farming at 10 times 25 times and 6 times, respectively. In order to reduce the amount of CH4 emission, water level in the rice farming should be kept as low as possible (less than 20 cm.) without affecting the amount of overall production. Moreover, the use of ground cover cropping method to increase soil fertility could help contain organic carbons and reduce the amount of CH4 emission because of the reduction of soil porosity by organic content. With that, related sectors, both the government and private ones, should consider the importance of reducing the amount of released methane in order to lessen the international trade barriers.
