บทคัดย่อ This research aimed to study the household social capital of each class in a suburban community in northeastern Thailand. The methodology was qualitative research, and unit of analysis at household and community levels was implemented. Key informants were 1) 10 community leaders composed of educator, community development officer, agricultural research officer, teacher, officer at sub-district health promotion hospital, retired government official, village headman, village philosopher, senior, and village health volunteer, and 2) 15 households in suburban community with diverse economic and social background selected based on inclusion criteria. In-depth interview was applied together with the participant and non-participant observation for data collection. Data were collected from January to March 2019. Content analysis was used for data analysis, and analytical description was used for data presentation. The results showed the different classes among the households in the sub-urban community by socio-economic status: upper class, middle class, lower middle class, and lower class. The households in each class had and used social capital differently. The upper-class households acquired social capital from relatives, social groups both inside and outside the community, and they were closely acquainted with influential people through the regular meeting. This class frequently used social capital for the purpose of facilitating their life to become stable in the socio-economic aspect. The middle-class households possessed social capital that was similar to the upper class. Nevertheless, they were not closely acquainted and did not meet with influential people, but they used to ask for help from them through a patronage system for better socio-economic status. The lower-middle-class households acquired social capital from relatives and groups in the community joining activities together and supporting each other that brought about to trust among themselves. They normally used social capital for the benefit of living together. The lower-class households had only relatives as their social capital because they had to struggle to survive, so social capital was hardly seen as important by this class.
