     Abstract The objective of this study was to explore gesture in students’ communication through open approach. This study used qualitative research methodology was video analysis supported by protocol that transcribed behavior of speaking, gesture in body movement, obtaining from video tape and audio tape recorder. As a result, students diversely showed their own thinking and experience in solving the open-ended problem. For the students' gestures communicating the others' approach according to sequence of teaching focusing on open approach as follows: 1) solving the open-ended problem that students expressed Deictic gesture 2) solving the open-ended problem expressed Deictic, Iconic and Beat gestures 3) collabolating in dission for solving broblems together students used Deictic and metaphoric gestures. Students communicated wwith their classmates and teacher as well as checking, argument, reasoning, analyzing, and expressing variety of approaches.
