Abstract Yang River Basin is a sub-basin of the Chi River Basin in Northeast Thailand. At downstream end of the Yang Basin is very sensitive to flooding. The rainfall-runoff modeling is the way to help mitigate and protect against floods. The models depend on hydrological response, of the watershed, which can be represented by CN value. The CN value derives from the combination of soil type and land use. Soil types are classified into 4 hydrological soil groups. Land uses, listed from largest area to smallest, are upland crop, forest, paddy field, residential, and water body. Objective of this paper is to compare the CN values among three types of models, i.e. lumped, semi-distributed, and fully distributed. The lumped value of CN was found to be 71. For semi-distributed model, the whole basin was divided into 5 sub-basins. The average CN values for 1st sub-basin at upstream most down to the 5th are 68,64, 72, 78 and 74, respectively. The CN contours were plotted on the whole basin for the case of fully distributed model.
