Introduction
Low back pain in the rice farmers is a serious health problem which was a few previous studies investigated the prevalence and associated factors of this problem, and not specific to rice transplanting process which is the highest prevalence in all process in a season. The study aimed to investigate the low back pain prevalence and the associated factors among the farmers specific to rice transplanting process.
Methodolgy
The cross-sectional study was conducted for 344 farmers aged between 20-60 years old. The questionnaire modified from the Standard Nordic Questionnaire in Thai version was used to examine the prevalence and associated factors.
Results
The result showed 83.14% (95%CI 79.2-87.1) of farmers experienced low back pain in the rice transplanting process. The number of days in a field was an associated factor with low back pain depending upon the age of farmers significantly (p-value = 0.008). Among younger farmers, the farmers who work in a field for less than six days were more likely to experience low back pain more than those who work for six days or grater (ORadj = 5.0; 95%CI 1.6 - 11.1; p-value < 0.01). Another significant factor related to low back pain was signs and symptoms of stress (ORadj = 3.7; 95%CI 1.21 - 4.00; p-value = 0.01).
Discussions and Conclusions
In the rice transplanting process, most of farmers experienced low back pain leaded by number of day and stress. The sanatorium needs to stress on low back pain which can cause a chronic problem in the future.
