| บทคัดย่อ |
The present study aimed to investigate protective effect of Phyllanthus emblica L. branch (PE) extract on rat testicular damage induced with valproic acid (VPA) that is widely used in treating for epileptic patients. The antioxidant capacity of aqueous PE extract was assayed by DPPH and FRAP methods. Male rats were divided into 6 groups (control, VPA, 250 mg/kgBW PE only, and 50, 100, 250 mg/kgBW PE+VPA). Animals were pretreated with PE for 23 days and co-administered with VPA for 10 days. After treatment, rats were observed relative weights of testis and epididymis plus vas deferens, sperm concentration, testosterone level, and testicular histology, respectively. The results showed that all doses of PE with high antioxidant activity significantly protect the decrease testicular weight and testosterone level in VPA rats. PE 50 and 100 mg/kgBW significantly improve the decrease sperm concentration in VPA treated rats. Moreover, testicular histology of PE+VPA groups showed declining of testicular damages such as seminiferous atrophy, sloughing and degeneration of germ cells as compared to VPA group. This study suggested that PE branch extract possessing antioxidant capacity prevent testicular damages in rats induced with VPA. |
