Abstract In 21st century, students are trained to develop critical thinking. Previous research had discovered that problem based learning (PBL) enhanced learning, critical thinking and communication among learners. A pre experimental study was conducted to investigate the effect of PBL on critical thinking skill in projectile motion. The participants were 40 grade 10 students taking physics course. In this research, the pre/post test was applied. The research was conducted with 5 lesson plans that follow 7 steps of PBL. First, teacher presented the problem (situation) about the projectile motion. Lesson plan 1: step 1 identify the problem, step 2 explore pre-existing knowledge. Lesson plan 2: step 3 generate hypotheses and possible mechanisms, step 4 identify learning issues. Lesson plan 3: self study (through the experiment). Lesson plan 4: re-evaluation and application of new knowledge to the problem. Lesson plan 5: assessment and reflection on learning.
