| Abstract |
Momordica cochinchinensis (MC) Spreng fruit contains high lycopene content. This study aimed to determine the cytotoxic and antiestrogenic effects of aril extract of MC fruit on MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The aril extract showed cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 cells with IC50 at 277.48±14.17 µg/ml. Its cytotoxic effect increased when co-treatment with tamoxifen. The aril extract demonstrated antiestrogenic activity by inhibiting the proliferation of MCF-7 cells induced by 17β-estradiol in a dose dependent manner. |
