บทคัดย่อ Graphene oxide (GO) was produced from bare graphite (BGP) material and was used as an intrinsic adsorbent for the removal of malachite green (MG) and alizarin red S (ARS) dyes from aqueous solution. For optimization study, the effects of the initial concentration of dye, solution pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time and ionic strength were investigated in details. The optimum conditions for MG adsorption were consisted of 300 mg/L dye concentration with 0.02 mg adsorbent at pH 5.1 and 40 min for complete adsorption equilibrium. While those conditions for ARS adsorption were 350 mg/L dye concentration with 0.02 mg adsorbent at pH 2.0 and 30 min for the adsorption equilibrium. Thus, the solution pH effect was largely different. Their maximum adsorption capacity for MG was 384.62 mg/g, drastically higher than that of BGP (28.73 mg/g). In contrast, their maximum adsorption capacity for ARS (88.50 mg/g) was less than that for MG. The adsorption process for both dyes followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. Thermodynamic data demonstrated that dye adsorption onto the GO surface was mainly an exothermic spontaneous reaction. The remarkably different adsorption isotherms for GO and BGP fit well with the Langmuir and Freundlich models, respectively. The intraparticle diffusion model described that the intraparticle diffusion was not the only rate-limiting step. In thermodynamics diversion, changes in G˚, H˚ and S˚ were also evaluated. It is, therefore, evident that the GO can be used as a high potential adsorbent for both cationic and anionic dyes with different adsorption capacity.
