Abstract A preliminary study on ultrasonic assisted tranesterification under vacuum condition was investigated. Improvement of Methyl ester yield due to vacuum condition was expected. The experiments were carried out in 3 different cases, namely conventional method with mechanical stirring (CM), ultrasonic assisted reaction at atmospheric pressure (USA), and ultrasonic assisted reaction under vacuum (USV). The results showed that, with some initial set parameters (3% CaO catalyzed, methanol to oil molar ration of 12:1 at 60 Celsius degree and 20 min reaction time) methyl ester yield were 52.44%, 54.22% and 57.60% for CM, USA and USV cases respectively. Moreover, optimization of parameters affected to yield is undergoing to obtain the highest yield.
