| Abstract |
Porous silica nanoparticles (PSNs) were synthesized using modified epoxidized natural rubber (ENR-50). The ENR-50 was subjected to ring-opening of the epoxide groups thus obtaining ENR-50 diols. The obtained ENR-50 diols was used as the template and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a silica precursor in mixed methanol-water solvent with ethylenetriamine (DETA) as the basic catalyst. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of ENR-50 diols was determined by UV-visible spectroscopy. The morphology of PSNs was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), which reveals spherical discrete particles with 200-300 nm in diameter. The BET surface area and total pore volumes were investigated by nitrogen adsorption/desorption analysis. The values for the BET surface area and total pore volumes of this PSNs were found to be 239.89 m2/g and 0.214 cm3/g, respectively. |
