TH, publication_conference_abstract The objectives of this research are: to identify the impacts of natural disaster risk at households of local residents and to identify the adaptation of households with natural disaster risk in the study site. The study was conducted in Giao Thien commune in Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province. This study used data collected using in-depth interviews and questionnaires with 95 households. The findings show the risk of natural disasters affecting the livelihood of the local population in the study area are storms, floods, and sea level rise. Currently, people in the area of research, are not merely affected by one disaster but usually 2-3 or even 4 types of disasters in a short period of time. Therefore, this leads to economic losses, in the form of assets of the households. The study also showed how local farmers have made significant efforts to implement measures to adapt to the disaster and its impact. People mainly use precautions groups and face the risks. Based on study results, for coastal households cope with disaster risk, it is proposed that they should: face with risk, prevention risk, and transfer risk.
