| บทคัดย่อ |
The main purpose of this study was to elucidate the factors influence the street children to migrate from homes to streets, and the problems faced during their stay in street. The study took place in Iringa Rural District, Tanzania, where street children were the unit of analysis. This study was conducted by using qualitative methods. The data were collected from 11 street children and 19 key informants, through interview guides both in-depth and focus group discussion. Purposively sampling was used to select 2 wards Kalenga and Idodi based on the availability of street children. The collected data were analyzed in descriptive statistics to show frequency and percentages.
The results of the study revealed that there were several factors influencing the increase of street children in Iringa Rural District. Poverty was found as a main factor leading to the migration of children from home to the street. Most of these children were involved in begging, drug trafficking, carrying luggage and theft in order to survive living in street. Furthermore the study showed that street children face problems during their stay in street such as verbal, physical and sexual violence. The findings of this study showed that verbal abuse rank high percent (90.9%), followed by physical abuse (72.7%).
The study recommends that children are the coming generation who need protections, love and care. Government should focus on improving the strategies of child development by ensuring the rights and welfare under control. This should be done by log-term plans to support street children not come back to the streets, by changing the negative perceptions of social neglect, that street children are strange in community.
