Abstract One hundred and four endophytic bacteria were isolated from Jerusalem artichoke and their ability for drought tolerance tested. Isolate 3.13, 4.43, 5.2 and 5.18 showed dominant growth in nutrient broth (NB) containing 20% polyethylene glycol (PEG). All Four selected isolates were then tested for bacterial survival in nutrient broth and in soil incubated at 30, 35, 40 and 45C. Reasonable survival was observed in all selected isolates from 30 to 40C. Furthermore, isolate 5.18 demonstrated grow at 45 C and maintained cell numbers at 4.33x107 CFU/mL after 29 days and 1.3x107 CFU/mL after 57 days in nutrient broth and in soil, respectively.
