Abstract In this paper, it investigates whatever dividend payouts are associated with earnings persistence in the context of an emerging market country. Two dividend features namely dividend-paying status and dividend payout ratio were examined. Using a sample of non-financial listed companies in the Stock Exchange of Thailand during the period of year 2000-2014, the samples consisted of 418 firms and 3,398 firm-year observations. Panel OLS regression was used to test the hypotheses. The results showed that dividend-paying status was significant positive association with earnings persistence. It implies that the firms that pay dividends provide stronger earnings persistence more than those not. However, it did not find any evidence that indicated the dividend payout ratio as an indicator of earnings persistence. Other factors, it found the significant positive association between earnings persistence and firm size, firm profitability, and fixed asset turnover. It means that earnings persistence is stronger (weaker) whether the size of firm size or firm profitability or fixed asset is larger (smaller). It also revealed the firm leverage was significant negative association with earnings persistence. It means that earnings persistence is stronger (weaker) whether the size of firm leverage is smaller (larger).
