Abstract The objectives of this research are 1)to explore the importance of perceived sources of risk in shrimp farming affecting the profit of farmers, and 2)to evaluate the relationship between the farmers’ perceived sources of risk and their socio-economic characteristics. This paper has reported the results of a questionnaire survey of 95 shrimp farmers. The results found that water management and disease risks were indicated as the most and second important farmers’ perceived sources of risk in shrimp farming in Giaophong commune, Giaothuy district, Namdinh province, Vietnam. The socio-economic characteristics including gender, farm size, and income are the factors which have most influence on the farmers’ perceived sources of risk.
