Oral health related Quality of Life in Among Thai Children with Dental Anomalies
Background: Children with developmental dental anomalies often have compromised oral health and facial esthetic could affect their dairy life activities. Management of these patients requires sequential approach over a long period of time by interdisciplinary dental professionals. Limited oral function and multiple dental treatment may affect their quality of life.
Objective : To quantify the impact of different clinical conditions related to dental anomalies on quality of life captured by the Child-oral impact on daily performance [Child-OIDP].
Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on the children and young adolescents, aged 6–18 years, attending Khon Kaen University Dental Hospital and Medical Hospital during January-July 2017. Caries and periodontal status were examined together with dental anomalies presented clinically. Control subjects were children matched for gender and age with the cases. Data on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) were collected using the Child-OIDP. Reported dental problems, dissatisfaction with dental appearance/function and socio-demographic characteristics were recorded.
Conclusion: Since their caries experience and periodontal status does not differ from the control’s, impact of the OHRQoL is most likely a result of the dental anomalies. Data of this study suggested that in order to improve the quality of life, oral rehabilitation for these children should focus on restoring esthetic and eating difficulties.
