Abstract Cervical spine surgery using screw fixation is an effective method to treat the cervical spine instability. Therefore, the morphological information of the cervical pedicle and lateral mass was investigated to determine the size and trajectory of screw fixation. The measurement was conducted in 200 dried cervical vertebrae (C3 to C7) including 100 males and 100 females. All parameters were measured by ImageJ. The measurement parameters were pedicle width (PW), pedicle length (PL), pedicle height (PH), lateral mass transverse diameter (LMTD), lateral mass longitudinal diameter (LMLD) and lateral mass height (LMH). The results of the study were that the morphology of pedicle and lateral mass was statistically significant differences between male and female. Otherwise, there was no difference in pedicle length at C3 and C7 between male and female. Therefore, the size of the screw should be considered at each level of the cervical vertebrae. The results of this study could be useful information for cervical spine fixation to reduce the vascular and neurological injuries during cervical spine surgery.
