Abstract |
Surface modification of rice husk ash (RHA) via chemical activations was investigated in order to improve the electrochemical properties of the RHA. The RHA contains SiO2 nano-particles surrounded by an amorphous carbon matrix. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was used as the oxidizing agent during pre-treatment of the RHA. After calcination in an Ar atmosphere, the materials were characterized by XRD, SAXS, and SEM. These materials show superior capacity retention and rate performance compared to the untreated RHA. Surface modification by H2O2 is an effective method to improve the electrochemical properties of RHA suitable for use as anodes in lithium ion batteries (LIBs). |
