Abstract Heat stress in tropical regions is a major cause that has negative effects on milk production in dairy cattle, and genetic variation which associated with the amount of lost production. Genetic selection for dairy heat tolerance is effective technique to improve genetic performance. Genomic estimated breeding values was used extensively in purebred dairy cattle, and given more accuracy than conventional breeding. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) and estimated breeding values (EBV) for heat tolerance of milk yield trait in Thai Holstein crossbred dairy cattle. The model for milk yield included the effects of herd test day, breeding group, days in milk, age at first calving, and heat stress function which was estimated for each cow using a random regression test-day model with a common threshold of temperature-humidity index (THI) = 75 for all cows. Genomic best linear unbiased prediction was used to calculate EBV and GEBV for heat tolerance of milk yield trait. A total of 155,156 monthly test-days records for first lactation during year 1993 to 2017 were collected from 22,829 Thai Holstein crossbred dairy cattle, and reference populations were 789 Thai Holstein crossbred dairy cattle. The average daily temperature, relative humidity, and THI in Thailand were 27.25 ± 3.13°∁ , 73.57 ± 11.77% , and 77.70 ± 4.52 , respectively.
