Research Title RELIABILITY OF HEIGHT LOSS RESPONSE MEASURED IN SITTING IN CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN PARTICIPANTS

     Abstract [Background and aims] Prolonged sitting has been partly attributed to load on lumbar discs. Loading on the spine causes deformation and dehydration of the discs, known as “Height loss”. Magnitude of height loss can be measured by stadiometer. For indicate the impact of load on the spine from works. It can promote awareness of the activities that affected height loss. This is also appropriate way to avoid low back pain. The aimed of this research was to investigate the reliability of height loss response measured in sitting in CLBP participants. [Methods] Participants were 10 CLBP participants (5 males, 5 females average age 26.4 years). Each participant was asked to put on a sleeveless waistcoat with a hole along the middle of the back. Four marks were placed on the skin overlying the spinous processes of C4, T4, T12 and L3. Then, each participant was asked to upright sitting position on the height loss measuring stadiometer. Mean of standart deviations test (MeanSD); the participants were asked to sit on the stadiometer for 10 sessions for 2 minute/session. Each participant was asked to step in and step out for each session of measurement. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient test (ICC3,1) and the standard error of measurement test (SEM); the participants were asked to sit on the stadiometer for 3 sessions for 2 minute/session. [Results] The results showed high reliability of the height loss measuring by stadiometer (ICC 3,1 = 0.98), (SEM = 0.06 mm),and (MeanSD = 0.298 mm). [Conclusions] The findings from this investigation support the use of height loss measuring stadiometer in a sitting posture as a highly reliable method for measuring the height loss from spinal loading after seated activities in either research or clinical practice in patients with CLBP.
