Abstract |
The article is a part of master thesis of Middle school students’ epistemic beliefs and
learning of scientific argumentation in the northeastern region of Thailand. This part was aimed
to examine students’ performance of making argument in learning science. To enhance the
performance, the Argumentative Inquiry Model (AIM) is implemented in science class. A
one-group pretest–posttest design is carried out to examine the effect of implement AIM
treatment in a science class. Semi-structured interview was used to stimulate and collect an
individual students to making a scientific argument through Scientific Argument Test (SAT).
The students’ despondences were transcribed to the texts word by word, then coding and
classifying into eight level; No Argument , Partial Argument , Simple Argument , Complex
Argument , and Sound Argument .The descriptive analysis show means and standard deviations
of students’ argument performances scores before and after the treatment. To comparing results,
T-test was conducted to calculate the difference between pre- and post- test scores. The result
revealed that most participants have progressed on performance of making a scientific
arguments. Moreover, the different of mean scores between pre-test and post-test is statistical
significantly (p < 0.05). |
