Abstract Abstract Purpose: This pilot study was aim to examine the effect of 4-week core muscle training on physical fitness among obese adolescents. Methods Ten obese male adolescents age between 16 - 18 years were randomized to either the exercise group (n = 5) or the control group (n = 5). The exercise group performed core exercise program 3 times/week, for 4 consecutive weeks, while the control group continued their normal daily activities and did not participated in core muscle training. Sit-to-stand test and sit up test were assessed at baseline and after exercise program. Results After 4 weeks of exercise, results found an improvement in muscle strength together with endurance in exercise group which was displayed by significant decreased time during five times sit-to-stand test while increased sit up repetitions either compared with baseline or the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion These results suggest that core exercise program might be part of a comprehensive physical fitness training program among obese adolescent.
