Abstract |
The growth of the renewable energy economy from reliance on intermittent sources can be made more reliable and more efficient by incorporated with energy storage systems. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the most suitable energy storage technology for a given application under multi-constrains and criteria by developing a benchmarking tool known as the Normalization of Frontier of the Best (NFB) method to facilitate the decision process. A comparative assessment of various types of energy storage techniques based on their appropriate technical and operational characteristics are carried out. These numeric values or their rankings could then be used as basis for an evaluation of the energy storage technology that is best suited depending on a variation of given demand situations such as load size, capacity, mobility and budget. In addition, the NFB can also indicate the ability of a given requirement to improve the energy storage technology required. |
