Abstract This study was aimed to study the relationships of fear-avoidance beliefs (FAB), illness perceptions (IP), and disability in chronic low back pain (CLBP) patients in Da Nang, Vietnam. A Cross-sectional study in 85 patients with chronic LBP were collected on a socio-demographic questionnaire, Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire, Modified Illness Perception Questionnaire-Revised, and the Modified Oswestry Disability Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The results showed that the score for FABpa (physical activity) and FABw (work) revealed were 69.4% and 37.3%, respectively. The patients held a strong belief in the chronic timeline (3.9±0.9) and the consequences (3.6±0.9). A severe to bed-bound disability was found in 62.3% of the participants. Furthermore, significant positive correlations were observed among variables. Moderate positive correlation were found between disability and FAB total (r=0.488, p<0.01), chronic timeline (r=0.378, p<0.01); consequences (r=0.495, p<0.01), emotional representations (r=0.418, p<0.01). In conclusion, there are positive correlations among fear-avoidance beliefs, illness perceptions, and disability in patients with chronic low back. Nurses or health care providers should concern these variables while caring for patients with chronic low back pain.
