| Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to investigate Clitoria ternatea L. (CT) extract could prevent L-NAME induced hypertension and glomerular damage in rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were administered with L-NAME (40 mg/kg/day) and concomitant with vehicle or CT extract (300 mg/kg) for five weeks. Systolic blood pressure was measured once a week. At the end of experiment, kidney tissue samples were collected for glomerular volume and Periodic acid-Schiff stained area fraction analysis. CT extract significantly alleviated an increase of systolic blood pressure and glomerular matrix accumulation (p<0.05). Our results indicate that CT extract prevented the development of hypertension and glomerular anatomical changes induced by L-NAME associated with its anti-inflammatory property. |
