Abstract It has been shown that (-)-alpha-gurjunene was the major component in oleoresin of Dipterocarpus alatus. In this study, (-)-alpha-gurjunene was investigated from 5 samples of D. alatus oleoresin which were prepared from different methods and different sources by a validated HPLC-UV technique. Furthermore, the biological activities such as, antioxidation, nitric oxide inhibition on murine Raw 264.7 cells, and collagen production activity on normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs) were also investigated. Our study found that (-)-alphagurjunene content from D. alatus oleoresin samples were obtained was from 7.32 to 17.35 mg/g sample. Low antioxidant activities of D. alatus oleoresins were found when evaluated by ABTS, DPPH and FRAP assay, however, D. alatus oleoresins could inhibit nitric oxide (NO) production on Raw 264.7 cells. The 2.5 µg/mL of supernatant after degumming oleoresin showed the highest NO inhibition (71.89%). In addition, the heated oleoresin could stimulate higher collagen production on NHDFs than ascorbic acid at levels 3 times higher than the negative control. Therefore, different oleoresin preparation methods affected the chemical contents and biological activities such as antioxidation, nitric oxide inhibition etc. Our results showed that D. alatus oleoresin has potential to be developed as an anti-inflammatory or wound healing product(s), however, its efficacy requires investigation
