Microalga Coelastrella sp. KKU-P1 was grown under mixotrophic conditions using molasses as organic substrate. Effect of feed to inoculum (F:I) ratio, initial sugar concentration and initial NaNO3 concentration on biomass and biomolecules production were studied. The F:I ratio of 5:0.15, initial sugar concentration at 10 g/L and initial NaNO3 concentration at 0.75 g/L were optimal conditions for growth and biomass production of Coelastrella sp. KKU-P1 giving maximum biomass concentration of 2.9 g/L with 65.67% sugar consumption. The microalgal biomass productivity was 0.37 g/Lday and biomass yield was 0.44 g/g-sugar consumed. The protein, carbohydrate and lipid contents of the biomass were 23.49, 30.29 and 3.51%, respectively. Protein content increased but lipid content decreased with increased concentration of NaNO3. The optimal NaNO3 concentration for protein accumulation was 1.5 g/L giving biomass with 44.43, 32.31 and 8.5% of protein, carbohydrate and lipid contents, respectively. The optimal NaNO3 concentration for lipid accumulation was 0.5 g/L giving biomass with 12.07, 27.59 and 25.40% of lipid, protein and carbohydrate contents of, respectively. |
