Abstract Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) has been the most popular pedagogical approach to achieving the communicative goal since it is known as one most effective strategy to improve students’ speaking competence. But it is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and EFL teachers are encouraged to incorporate technology and applications (e.g., Classcraft, and the like) to aid students improve learning. Thus, the current study attempts to investigate the effect of using CLT with gamification (henceforth, strategy intervention) to improve students’ speaking performance in English as well as their learning motivation towards English. The study involved 25 purposively selected students who underwent 8 sessions of gathering data. Furthermore, an exploratory case study was utilized with a mixed- method type of research using a single group of pre- and post- test design. Study findings revealed that students’ English- speaking performance was enhanced after the strategy intervention was provided as evidenced by their pre-speaking performance and post-speaking test scores. Study findings likewise revealed that there was a significant relationship between the students’ speaking performance and their motivation towards learning English indicative that they tend to be more likely to learn and speak the second language (L2) more. The study findings hypothesized that using CLT with Classcraft in an EFL classroom increases learners’ speaking performance, enhances their motivation to speak L2, and provides a foundation for designing curriculum in improving students’ speaking skill.
