Abstract |
A charged board event on a hard disk drive printed circuit board assembly was experimentally measured under
the charged device model concept. Electrostatic discharge sensitivity was measured and used for establishing an
electrostatic discharge control program for a hard disk drive assembly process. The results revealed that a sample
printed circuit board was damaged when subjected to +2500 V. The tested hard disk drive could not initialize
while some copper traces were melted and disconnected. This classification can be a guideline for managing
manufacturing processes using essential insulators to mitigate field induced potentials in hard disk drive
assembly. |
