     Abstract This article focuses on investigating capital transformation of border petty traders at the checkpoint for Thailand-Laos border trade, Tha Uthen, as well as conditions and contexts for capital selection. The qualitative research methodology was based on a phenomenological approach with interviews with community experts, border petty traders, and government officials. The results of the study revealed that border trade checkpoint has created opportunities for people in the community to have more career choices. The border petty traders play an important role in driving the border economy. They have the ability to utilize and transform capital into other types of capital: economic capital, social capital, cultural capital, and symbolic capital. It reflects the diversification of capital under different conditions and contexts for the benefit of one's livelihood as well as preserving the benefit of the community.
