Abstract The researchers designed their research with the intention of exploring the appreciative leadership practices of school principals in secondary educational management. A total of nine experts were purposively appointed to participate in this research using the expert sampling techniques. This sampling technique is suitable because the selected participants are information-rich cases related to the phenomenon of interest. The research composes of two phases. In the first phase, researchers conducted a documentary review of a total of 12 previous research reports and two public documents to identify the factors of appreciative leadership practices that have been investigated before. The results of the first phase revealed that there are four factors of appreciative leadership, namely appreciative inquiry, inspiration, positive thinking, and valuing a contribution. The identified factors from the first phase were used to create an interview protocol comprising 10 semistructured interview questions for the second phase. In the second phase, in-depth interviews were utilized to verify the identified factors and followed by determining the related indicators of each factor. The final results revealed that a total of 16 indicators were derived from the four factors of appreciative leadership practices of secondary school principals in educational management.
