| บทคัดย่อ |
Income inequality has become a significant global concern, particularly in Asian nations
in recent times. While Asia has witnessed remarkable economic growth, there has also been a
corresponding increase in income inequality. This poses a challenge for both society and the
economy in maintaining stability, demanding the attention of researchers and policymakers. The
objective of this study is to examine how factors such as globalization, research and
development, technology adoption, and human capital development influence income inequality.
Additionally, it aims to compare income inequality between ASEAN and non-ASEAN regions.
Data from various sources were utilized for nineteen Asian countries, including Armenia, China,
Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea Republic, Kyrgyz Republic,
Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and
Vietnam. The data covers the period from 2001 to 2020 and is sourced from the World Bank, the
KOF globalization index1, and the United Nations Development Programme. To explore the
relationships between these factors, we employed a method known as the panel data Random
Effects Model. The results indicate that globalization, research and development, and technology
adoption have a positive impact on reducing income inequality. This suggests that these factors
can effectively contribute to greater income equality in Asian countries. However, when it comes
to human capital development, it appears to exacerbate income inequality, presenting a challenge
that requires attention. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for policymakers
endeavoring to devise strategies to promote income equality in their respective countries. |
