Abstract This article aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the social exchange phenomenon in the suburbs of Thailand. Drawing upon social exchange theory and the concept of social resources and capital, the study seeks to synthesize existing knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of the dynamics of social exchange and the strategic utilization of resources in suburban contexts. Upon examining the concept and elaborating on the notion of suburbs, the researchers synthesized and categorized suburbs into five distinct characteristics encompassing physical, social, and cultural aspects, economic attributes, demographic features, and consumption patterns. Regarding the utilization of resources in social exchange, the researcher categorized resources into five distinct groups, natural resources, financial resources, physical resources, human resources, and social resources. The diverse interactions and exchanges between suburbs and their various stakeholders necessitate an integrated theoretical approach to capture the complexities of social exchange effectively. By integrating theoretical knowledge, this study aims to shed light on the sophisticated relationships, resource dependencies, and power dynamics that shape social exchange processes in suburban environments.
