Abstract |
In this study, we investigated the influence of sintering conditions on the giant dielectric permittivity and low loss tangent in indium tin oxide-added Ta-doped rutile TiO2 ceramics. The ceramic powders were synthesized using a conventional mixed oxide method, and the resulting powders were sintered in the temperature range of 1200 to 1350 °C for 3 h. We examined the phase formation and microstructure evolution as a function of sintering temperature and sintering time. Remarkably, we achieved large dielectric permittivities ranging from 103 to 104 with a low loss tangent (approximately 0.02) in all the sintered ceramics when employing a low sintering temperature of 1250°C. By further optimizing the sintering conditions, we obtained ceramics with low loss tangent and high permittivity, exhibiting minimal temperature dependence over a wide range. The origins of the observed giant dielectric properties were explained by considering interfacial polarization and complex defect dipoles. |
