Abstract |
The purpose of this article is to study the life course of adolescent families through the decision-making of teenagers as agents of change. This study uses qualitative research methodology in the form of phenomenology and a retrospective cohort study with 5 adolescent families in the socio-cultural context of Northeastern Thailand. The family unit is the focus of analysis, and data were collected through interviews with adolescent families who had transitioned from being teenagers to adolescent parents, with children who were born during the ages of 15-19. Content analysis is a research method used to analyze and interpret on Life Course theory. The results show that adolescent families have an average age of 18.2 for the teenage fathers and 16.6 for the teenage mothers when they transitioned to becoming families. These families attempt to determine their own life course amid social pressure and various problems they face. The important conditions that affect the decision-making and efforts of these families to establish their life course include the characteristics and background of the family, their relationships with people around them, and the location of their residence. |
