Abstract The research is aimed to investigate how lesson study team uses Japanese mathematics textbooks for implementing lesson study in Thai context. The methodology were as follows: interviewing the member of lesson study team: 3 internship mathematics students and 1 school coordinator, observing lesson study team while they work in lesson study cycle for one week. The data were 4 interviewing protocols, researcher and internship students’ field notes of observing. The data were analyzed according to 3 phases of lesson study. The findings are as follows: 1) The phase of collaboratively design research lesson (Plan), the teachers always used textbooks for planning the lessons and also for determining the objective of lesson, designing for the open-ended problem situations and materials, determining the instruction for activities, and the questions to be used by teachers in classroom as well as anticipating the solution would be occurred in the class and duration for each activity through discussion for interpreting from the problem situation pictures, and translating from English language occurring in Japanese mathematics textbooks. 2) The phase of collaboratively observing their friend teaching the research lesson (Do), the teacher played their teaching role as specified in the lesson plan constructing from Japanese mathematical textbooks. The teachers observered, collaborated in classroom observation without intervening the students’ thought and recorded the issues observing. 3) The phase of collaboratively doing post-discussion or reflection on teaching practice (See), they collaborated in reflection in order to find the weak point of the design in lesson plan developed from Japanese mathematics textbooks for being improved with appropriateness in the future.
