| Abstract |
A gradient coil set has been designed and constructed for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of a sample smaller than 60 mm to be used with the SMIS 0.3 T MRI system at the Physics Department of Khon Kaen University, having the main magnetic field in the vertical direction (y axis). The z-gradient coil ( ) is a Golay coil of 180 mm diameter and 16 turns, giving a uniform gradient field strength of 5.87mT/m at a current of 3A in the region 40 mm. The x-gradient coil ( ) is a Quadrupole coil of 196 mm diameter and 10 turns, giving a uniform gradient field strength of 4.69 mT/m at 3A in the region 40 mm. The y-gradient ( ) is provided by a 16 turn Saddle coil with 188 mm diameter, giving uniform gradient field strength of 4.8 mT/m at 3A in the region of 20 mm. The calculated and measured gradient fields were not more than 0.5 % different. Imaging results confirm that it is possible to image a sample of 40 mm diameter without distortion. |
