Abstract |
The majority of people living in the Northeast of Thailand are Isan people. This ethnic group descended from Laotian people of Lao People's Democratic Republic. The citizens of Isan have been marginalized in Thailand for centuries. In 2010, the citizens of Isan shocked the world by playing the major role in the radical protests against the government of Thailand that put Thailand in a chaotic state. Their reason for protest was democratic reform. Challenging the ‘established’ institutions keeps happening through the elections and other political activities in northeastern Thailand. This interesting phenomenon is perceived as a part of new political culture. |
