| บทคัดย่อ |
Antimicrobial proteins are one group of antimicrobial agents that are phylogenetically ancient components of innate host defense mechanisms and are expressed by immune and non-immune cells of both invertebrates and vertebrates. The biological activity of these agents demonstrates potency against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. This study aims to investigate antibacterial activity of crude white blood cell extracts from Crocodylus siamensis blood. Antibacterial activity of crude white blood cell extracts was investigated by liquid growth inhibition assay, using of both gram positive (S.aureus ATCC 25923, S.epidermidis ATCC 12228 and P.acnes DMST 14916 ) and gram negative bacteria (S.Typhi ATCC 5784, E.coli ATCC 25922 and P.aeruginosa ATCC 27853) and crude white blood cell at the concentrations of 0.02, 0.04, 0.08, 0.17, 0.34, 0.69, 1.37, 2.75, 5.5 and 11.18 mg/ml was used. The results showed that the extracts of crude white blood cell exhibited antibacterial activity at the concentrations of 5.5 mg/ml (MIC value) against S.Typhi ATCC 5784, P.aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and P.acnes DMST 14916 and exhibited antibacterial activity at the concentrations of 11.18 mg/ml (MIC value) against E.coli ATCC 25922, S.aureus ATCC 25923, and S.epidermidis ATCC 12228. Therefore, this study shows that crude white blood cell extracts from Crocodylus siamensis blood might have a potential for pharmaceutical applications. Further studies on bioactivities of this extract are needed. |
