Abstract |
This ethnographic study aimed to understand Small-group Mathematical Communication (SMC) in 7th grade mathematics classroom based on Lesson Study and Open Approach. In this study, Lesson Study and Open Approach were integrated in mathematics classroom to stimulated students’ mathematical learning process. SMC included mathematical learning process that occurs in a cultural tradition of practice. Students’ thinking and feeling are more important in the scene of SMC. We proposed “Triad Feedback” as a unit of analysis of SMC which is modified from “Dyad Feedback” (Emori, 1993; 1997; 2005) and integrated with Inprasitha’s (2001) theoretical framework of emotional experience. This paper described the elements in Triad Feedback supported by analyzing of video and protocol of 8 seventh-grade students’ SMC. The result showed that Triad Feedback could be used to analyze students’ schema change as a cognitive aspect, and emotional experience as an emotional aspect. It is a lens for understanding students’ thinking and feeling in mathematical learning process. |
