This imbalance may associate with cardiovascular disease (CVD). It may be due to chronic hyperglycemia that was related to insulin resistance in these persons. Autonomic balance was examined by heart rate variability or HRV. It can be measured by time (standard deviation of normal to normal R-R intervals, SDNN and normal root mean square of successive heartbeat interval differences, RMSSD) and frequency (total power, TP; low frequency, LF; high frequency, HF and the ratio of low and high frequency, LF/HF ratio) domain. Thus, the purpose of this study was to define the condition of autonomic balance in Thai persons with type 2 diabetes. In addition, the aging progress of blood vessel status was also investigated. Methods Sixteen subjects who were diagnosed as type 2 diabetes at least 1 year, not taking insulin and having HbA1c level lower than 8.5% were recruited in this study. They were measured HRV parameters and the aging progress of blood vessel status at rest by SA3000P (MEDICORE, South Korea) after an overnight fast. All data were shown as mean ± SD. This study was approved by the Human Ethical Committee of Khon Kaen University, which according to the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association (HE531276). In addition, it is the first publication in the conference of these data. Results Thai persons with type 2 diabetes had a higher LF/HF ratio than normal range. This indicated that there was the impairment of autonomic balance, though, they had normal levels of SDNN, RMSSD, TP, LF and HF parameters. In addition, 29% of subjects had a good blood circulation and blood vessel status, whereas blood vessel status in 63% of them were getting aging. Discussion Both of the impairment of autonomic balance and the initial level of aging in blood vessel in these persons may show increased risk to the mortality of CVD. Implication to physiotherapy These findings may provide baseline data for exercise prescription in persons with type 2 diabetes in order to avoid the harmful effect of inappropriate exercise.
