Abstract When air condition system is operated with chilled water storage tank, it is expected that peak demand of the system can be reduced. Basically, chilled water is produced and charged into a tank during off-peak period and it is used or discharged to the cooling system during peak time. In this research, temperature gradient of water inside the storage tank is simulated for various H:D ratios of the tank. Effect of physical dimension of the tank on the temperature gradient during discharging is investigated. ANSYS Fluent version 15.0, a computational fluid dynamics program is used for numerical investigation. The H:D ratios of the tank are varied as 0.7, 0.8, 1.1, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 with a constant of volume of 1,755 m3. 25 L/s of chilled water flow out at 5°C and flow in at 15°C during discharging. The simulated results revealed that the 5°C water is enough to be used for 13 hours of discharging and the H:D = 2.0 gave highest remaining cold water.
