     Abstract Demand Side Management (DSM) is one of the most interesting techniques that can reduce consumer electricity costs. There are many recent works studied on DSM and smart homes discussing how to optimally control electricity consumption in a residential household. However, there is no experience of optimal control of electricity consumption considering Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and solar photovoltaic (PV) for multiple residential households. Consequently, this study proposes a DSM model to minimize electricity costs for multiple households. The constraints consist of consumer preferences, energy requirements of each appliance, BESS operation and solar PV generation power. The proposed model can be described as a linear optimization problem. Mixed Integer Programming (MILP) is used to solve this proposed model. The performance of the proposed model is tested by four different case studies composing of the usual case, optimal load scheduling case, optimal load scheduling considering solar PV installation case and optimal load scheduling considering solar PV and BESS installations. From the simulation results, the proposed model can reduce the electricity cost by 30 cents for case 2, 1,043.31 cents for case 3 and 1,700.02 cents for case 4 compared with the electricity cost of usual case.
