Abstract This study aimed to explore type of activity systems for mediation in classroom using lesson study and open approach. The target group included a teacher and 21 7th -graders. Data analysis was based on frameworks 1) activity systems of Engestrom, (1987) and 2) algebraization levels of Ake, Godino, Gonzato, Wilhelm, (2013). Research results showed that there are 4 actions. The first action mediate to know level 0 of algebraization, students can use a basic tool for solving the problems. The second action mediate to know Level 1, students may find that the situation requires it and the relationship but students cannot write out in a formal or an equation. The third action mediate to know level 2, students can investigate the relationship of the issue relations and can be expressed in the equation. The fourth action mediate to know level 3, students can tranform the equation in level 2 into the a mathematical model.
