Abstract |
This paper aims to promote critical thinking and problem-solving competencies of Grade 9 students
in the chemical concentration using STEAM education through ethical dilemma teaching. Participants included
31 ninth-graders in Khon Kaen, Thailand. The methodology regards interpretive paradigm. The intervention
of STEAM Education was developed based on Maneelam and Yuenyong (2023) [1]. STEAM Education
pedagogy. Moreover, the intervention was carried out in three weeks. Students’ critical thinking and problem
solving competencies were interpreted through critical thinking and problem-solving competencies assessment
form (CT-PS), students’ tasks, participant observation, and unstructured interview. Data was categorized using
CT-PS scoring rubric for students’ competencies. The findings revealed that students performed high levels of
critical thinking and problem-solving competencies. Students’ levels of CT-PS were clarified through elements
including giving reason effectively, using systematic thinking, making judgment and decision, and solving
problem. These findings would be a good practice in teaching STEAM Education through ethical dilemma
approach for whom that interested in taking further applications in science teaching and learning. |
