Abstract |
One of the challenges of the 21st century is developing positive attitudes (OECD, 2019). Mathematics is a suitable subject for cultivating these attitudes in students. In Thailand, Inprasitha (2004) introduced an innovation called Lesson Study (LS) incorporated Open Approach (OA) to improve mathematics teaching practices. Multiple studies found that this innovation had significantly contributed to more positive attitudes toward mathematics. The research school implemented this innovation for a year; the LS team
was formed to design lesson plans and anticipate possible mathematical attitudes that will emerge in the classroom. It has been proven that using OA encourages students to
attempt to solve problems by fostering their mathematical attitudes. After the lesson, the team members reflected on their teaching practice and how to handle unexpected ideas
that occurred, or students’ ideas related to mathematical attitudes. |
